The Ministry
Clement believes that the future of any nation lies in its youth; similarly, the future of the church lies in the youth – they comprise 60% of Nigeria's population, with 16% enrolled in higher institutions. A significant proportion of this demographic identifies with Christianity; however, this affiliation is often characterized as "a mile wide but only skin deep." The reason lies in the lack of concerted efforts to disciple new believers. Many churches establish denominational-based fellowships on campuses primarily for member tracking, neglecting the implementation of robust discipleship mechanisms. Consequently, converts are left to navigate their faith journey without adequate support. The reality of "the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few" becomes increasingly evident, making it challenging to track and record second and third generations of disciples. For these reasons, relational discipleship is key to fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus found in Matthew 28:19-20.
The Vision
Clement and Lydia Ior with their two children
Clement’s spiritual aspiration is to fulfill the Great Commission by actively engaging with and mentoring the youth, guiding them to spiritual maturity, equipping them with the tools for discipleship, and empowering them to become devoted followers of Jesus.
The ultimate goal is for these young individuals to lead Christ-centered lives and become disciple-makers within their own spheres of influence. Believing in the transformative power of this approach, it is envisioned that winning the campus today will lay the foundation for winning the nation and the world tomorrow.
The vision also includes establishing a disciples' home, where Christian students can experience a nurturing environment that fosters spiritual growth. Upon graduation, these disciples will be equipped and sent out as change agents to various parts of the world, ready to spread the message of Christ.
The Impact
Clement with students whom he and Lydia are discipling
In 2023, Bart Physioc from Disciplers International led Clement through the Step-by-Step. Bart diligently supported him to ensure a thorough understanding and life application of the lessons taught, thus enhancing my effectiveness in the ministry of making disciples.
Having completed the training and now inspired by the impact of Disciplers International on his life, Clement have begun implementing these principles in both one-on-one and group sessions. His intent is to develop Disciples of Christ into Disciplers for Christ. The experience so far has been very meaningful and He now looks forward to witnessing the emergence of third and fourth generations of Disciples and Disciplers.
