Disciple-Making and Holistic Care in DRC Villages

By Flavien & Naomi Muderhwa

By God’s grace we are serving Him in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), especially in Goma town and its neighboring villages. The Lord continues to lead us to serve unreached people, not only by training and equipping them to be disciples of our Lord Jesus but also by supplying them with food and first necessity products with the help of Disciplers International.

In 2023 we started to minister in the village of Kibati II by spreading God’s word to vulnerable children and women in that particular area. This ministry was a great blessing for those we served and also for us. We are happy to be able to reach needy people in this village with the gospel and to be able to offer care by providing them with some food and non-food items.

Also, this year the Lord has been using us to serve Him in the village of Bugamba II where we are doing one-on-one discipleship training with four men and four women. Both Naomi and I (Flavien) are really thankful for the financial support and discipleship materials provided by Disciplers International which enables us to perform our disciple-making ministries to both men and women living in villages while caring for their physical and emotional needs. This holistic ministry is according to the will of God, because it provides care for the whole person – body, soul, spirit.

The photos above show our disciples in the village of Bugamba II being trained through the 14-Step Process (French translation) or 8-Step Process (Swahili translation), which are previous editions to the current Step-by-Step Process of Disciplers International. We have translated these editions to our language for easier access to those we serve in DRC.

The impact is significant and meaningful because these people love the Lord Jesus, they love His Word, and they are committed to serving Christ by equipping and training other disciples to do the same according to God’s Great Commission. The lives of these dedicated believers are being transformed in some amazing ways through Christ Jesus!

We look forward to seeing those who remain Faithful, Intentional and Teachable (FIT) grow from Disciples of Christ to Disciplers for Christ to Ministry Associates and eventually, by God’s grace and their faithfulness, to become Disciplers International Ministry Partners. Praise the Lord!

The last 3 photos show some of the vulnerable children and vulnerable women we are taking care of spiritually and physically in the village of Bugamba II. The love we show them is Jesus’ love through Disciplers International’s love. The impact is really good and very positive as the recipients are joyfully believing that Jesus Christ is the only One who brings true love and joy as well as hope and salvation. As a result, their overall health (body, soul, spirit) continues to improve day-by-day. Praise the Lord!
