Step-by-Step with Jesus, our Discipleship Training redisigned.
By Bart Physioc
Almost 40 years ago I developed a simple outline to help me grow in my relationship with Christ and to share my faith more effectively. I was only a few years along in my journey with Jesus, and I was doing the best I could to follow the Lord and help others do likewise. Thankfully, I had the gospels to show me the way but, sadly, I had no one to lead the way. Jesus invested Himself personally in disciples of His own, but I had no discipler of my own. Unfortunately, this predicament for young Christians is common.
Over the years, by reading books on the subject and through much trial and error, I developed materials and a method. This became the 14-Step Discipleship Process for use in “discipling” others on their journeys with Jesus. I put this word in quotes, because there’s much more involved in training and equipping others personally and spiritually than just taking them through several steps of this or that. Having said that, the 14-Step Guidebook & Workbook have proved to be very useful tools in coming alongside those who want to both grow in Christ and go in Christ, just as I did.
Life is a learning experience, so the more I used my materials the more I learned along the way. This resulted in multiple updates and revisions of the Disciplers Guidebook & Disciplers Workbook. Over time, I realized a deep-seated need for a dramatically new presentation of the materials that moved beyond simply knowing more about God and how to study His word to knowing God intimately and experiencing Him more personally in His word. Finally, early this past year, I began work on a completely new presentation of the 14-Step Discipleship Process that retained the core curriculum, so to speak, but offered it in a dramatically new way. This “new way” is simply called Step-by-Step.
